Whether you own a small business or large real estate firm, it’s important to create a positive and pleasant work environment to not only promote happiness but encourage a solid work ethic amongst your employees. If you work from home, you can still use the following tips to spruce up your home office and add excitement to each work day.

Add Pizzazz to Your Desk

Decorate your desk and walls with a few photos that showcase fun memories. To maintain a clean and uncluttered work environment, use a corkboard if you have multiple photos. If you prefer artwork, choose calming pieces such as paintings of nature or expansive vistas. Be proud of your workplace by giving it your personal touch.

Coffee and Snack Bar

Mornings can be rough for many and a hot cup of coffee (or tea) can be a welcome sight. Show appreciation for your employees by keeping a well-stocked break room. This is an inexpensive way to treat everyone in your office, including yourself! Make sure your cupboards and office fridge have the basics: ground coffee, creamer, tea, sugar, and water.

Do you have a membership to a warehouse retailer such as Costco? Buying healthy snacks in bulk is more cost-effective and not to mention, a sweet gesture for your entire office.

Be Flexible

What in-office devices do your employees need to complete their job? If office tasks can be completed remotely, offer telecommuting once a week to your employees. This small dose of freedom is a win-win for both parties. As the boss, this costs you nothing and work can still be completed. Employees will skip the morning and after-work commute in lieu of a more comfortable workplace: home.

If you feel unsure about telecommuting, try a test-run. Offer this flexible option for a couple weeks to gauge how well it works for your office.

A Simple Thank You

According to a Gallup survey, the number one reason that employees leave their jobs is because they don’t feel appreciated. Additionally, 65% of Americans surveyed said they received no workplace recognition last year.

Your office doesn’t have to contribute to these somber statistics. A simple thank you is an incredibly easy way to show your employees you care. Everybody likes to be appreciated. For those that work at home as your own boss, give yourself a pat on the back. You work hard and that should be recognized. Treat yourself to a small shopping trip, a decadent dessert, or a relaxing weekend
