#QuoteOfTheDay with Marcia Davies

1

As cliché as it sounds, there is always a reason behind meeting each person in your life. To Marcia Davies, April’s Leadership Theme: #KnowYourself means seeing each person in your life as an opportunity to become comfortable with different and even conflicting perspectives. By doing so, you continue to refine your own interpersonal skills while also having the chance to transform someone else’s life.

Principle #5 Know Yourself: Be authentic and lead in a way that is true to you. Own your unique talents and strengths, and empower those around you.

As we round out the last day of Women’s History Month, we at NAWRB found this eye-opening story a relevant one to share:

It was 1972 when 25-year-old Marjorie Wintjen and 27-year-old Paul Wintjen sought a mortgage for a home that would suit their four-person family, all with a $14,000 salary between the two of them.

“But their lending officer didn’t want to count Marjorie’s income. the officer agreed to include half of it, which would enable them to qualify for the mortgage, if the Wintjens would agree to one condition: She would have to provide a medical certificate stating that she was sterilized.”
