As we near the end of March, it’s time to recap the highlights of Women’s History Month, dedicated to celebrating the contributions women have made throughout history and today. NAWRB honored inspiring women leaders in the housing ecosystem, shared stories focused on women and gender equality, had our International Women’s Day 24-Hour Marathon, and hosted events focused on women’s economic growth. Nasdaq Rings Bell for Gender Equality
In honor of International Women’s Day on March 8th, 63 stock exchanges from all over the world participated in a bell ringing ceremony to raise awareness for the important role the private sector plays in advancing the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal 5, principles which focuse on gender equality and women’s empowerment. The event, which took place at Nasdaq in collaboration with UN Women, marks the fourth reiteration of the bell.

United Nations Empower Rural Women with Tech
As rural communities in Africa struggle with the impact of climate change, the United Nations is taking action to help support the empowerment of women farmers in Mali and Malawi by introducing climate-smart agriculture. UN Women and partners will facilitate the women farmers’ access to information and markets and raise awareness of sustainable farming practices.

EU and UN Urge Global Action on Violence against Women and Girls
On the opening day of the 62nd Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, world leaders from the European Union and the United Nations discusses strategies for eliminating violence against women and girls at a global scale. The session highlighted the many forms of discrimination faced by women and types of collective agent needed by individuals and organizations to protect women’s human rights.

New Statistics on Women and Minorities in Tech
A recent report by Wired looks into the state of women’s representation in computer science. While more women are choosing to major in STEM fields, there is still a lack of gender diversity in computer science. This might be due to recruiters alientinating female recruits and a need for introductory computer science courses to appeal to female college students.

March 4: Miami, FL – 16th Annual Enterprising Women of the Year Awards
This event recognized and celebrated the winners of the Enterprising Women of the Year Awards, one of the most prestigious recognition programs for women business owners. The program began with a reception for award honorees and dinner.

March 7: Miami, FL- Wonder Women and Their Economic Growth
Co-hosted by AREAA and NAWRB, this event featured industry experts who covered obstacles and solutions for women’s economic growth, including women’s homeownership, and the 10 principles of Wonder Women.

March 12-23: New York, NY- United Nation’s Commission on the Status of Women

The sixty-second session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW62) took place this month at the United Nations Headquarters. This global event included representatives of member states, UN entities and NGOs from all over the world to discuss the challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and empowerment for all rural women and girls.

March 20-22:  Dallas, TX – WBENC’s Summit & Salute
The Summit consisted of industry focused workshop sessions, procurement connection opportunities, inspiring keynote speakers, networking receptions and more. The Salute! gala was festive evening that honored and celebrated various groups throughout the WBENC network.
