According to the 2019 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report, commissioned by American Express, the number of women-owned businesses increased 21 percent between 2014 and 2019, resulting in a total of almost 13 million at 12,943,400. At the same time, employment by women-owned businesses grew 8 percent to 9.4 million, and revenue rose 21 percent to $1.9 trillion. The report finds that the growth rates of key metrics for women-owned businesses continued to progress when compared to all businesses in the past five years.
