AREAA Releases 2019 State of Asia America Report

The Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA) just released the 2019 State of Asia America Report, which provides a thorough profile of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPIs)communities residing in the United States. The report provides information on the education, homeownership rates, economic impact, consumerism and other important topics on this often underrepresented and misrepresented segment of the population.

Mother’s Day 2019

On Sunday, May 12th, Americans will celebrate Mother’s Day, a national holiday honoring mothers and motherhood. Mother’s Day was first organized by Anna Jarvis in Grafton, WV and Philadelphia, PA on May 10, 1908. As the annual celebration gained popularity, Jarvis requested that Congress officially recognize a day to honor mothers. In 1914 Congress designated the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.

Women Comprise Almost Half of Time Magazine’s 100 List

Time Magazine’s annual list of the Top 100 Most Influential People for 2019 is almost half women for the first time ever. There are 48 women gracing the list, an increase from 45 last year. When the list was first established in 2004, only 24 women were included, so the representation of women has also doubled in the last 15 years.

Number of Females as Admirals and Generals Doubles Since 2000

A recent report by the Service Women’s Action Network (SWAN) shows that more women are in senior enlisted and officer ranks as more are pursuing careers in the military. There were 30 female admirals and generals on active duty in the five services in fiscal 2000. In 2018, there were 63 females occupying senior positions in the military. The increase of female representation is credited to more women staying in the military and more opportunities being made available, such as military occupational specialties.

Equal Pay Day 2019

About four months into 2019 women finally equaled men’s 2018 earnings, due to the pervasive gender pay gap that results in women earning approximately 80 cents to every man’s dollar.

Which U.S. Cities Have the Most Women Breadwinners?

Men typically outearn women, with women making roughly 82 cents for every dollar a man earns, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The reasons for this are highly debated, though evidence tends to point to lack of female representation in higher-paying jobs and a persistent gender wage gap. However, there are instances in which women make more than their significant others. A report by LendingTree lists the top cities where women tend to outearn their partners.
