SBA Defers Existing Disaster Loans Until End of 2020

U.S. Small Business Administration Administrator Jovita Carranza announced that the SBA will be granting automatic disaster loan deferments through December 31, 2020, to help borrowers who are still paying back SBA loans from previous disasters. Because the change is automatic, borrowers of home and business disaster loans do not have to contact the agency to request deferment. NAWRB is honored to be one of only 11 organizations listed as a Women’s Entrepreneurship Partner for the SBA, and we are happy to be a resource and lend an ear to the over 30 million U.S. small businesses who make up the backbone of our economy.

WHER Chat: SBA Disaster Assistance for California Small Businesses Economically Impacted by Severe Storms & Flooding

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Jovita Carranza announced the SBA is offering low-interest federal disaster loans for working capital to small businesses in California regions that have been economically impacted by the severe storms and flooding that occurred in San Bernardino County Nov. 27- Dec. 1, 2019. The disaster declaration was made on Feb. 12, 2020, following a request from Governor Gavin Newsom’s representative Mark S. Ghilarducci.

SBA Funding Competition for Training Women Veteran Entrepreneurs – Deadline: March 17th

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced that nonprofit organizations, state and local agencies, and higher learning institutions are eligible to compete for funding up to $300,000 for delivering entrepreneurship training to women service members, women veterans and women military spouses. 

Up to six awardees will receive a total of the aforementioned funding amount in grants administered by the SBA’s Office of Veterans Business Development for participating in the Women Veteran Entrepreneurship Training Program. The funds are intended to cover costs of education women service members, women veterans and women military spouses who are currently or interested in starting their own business.

Jovita Carranza Sworn in as 26th SBA Administrator for Second Tenure

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced that Jovita Carranza has been sworn in as the 26th Administrator of the SBA. This is Administrator Carranza’s second tenure at the SBA as she previously served in the George W. Bush Administration as Deputy Administrator from 2006-2009. The Trump administration nominated Administrator Carranza to lead the SBA while she was serving as the 44th Treasurer of the United States, and she was confirmed by the U.S. Senate in an impressive bipartisan vote of 88-5.

NAWRB Comments on SBA’s Proposed Receipts-Based Size Standards

Women in the Housing & Real Estate Ecosystem (NAWRB) appreciates the opportunity to comment on the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)’s Proposed Rule, Small Business Size Standards: Calculation of Annual Average Receipts.This new proposed rule will modify how the SBA calculates annual average receipts in determining size standards for certain industries, including retail trade, agricultural and construction industries. Specifically, the proposal states that the agency intends to change its size standards from a three-year averaging period to a five-year averaging period for calculating annual average receipts for all receipts-based size standards.

SBA Approves $214 Million in Disaster Assistance Loans for California Wildfires

The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Disaster Field Operations Center-West Director Tanya N. Garfield announced on December 20th, 2018, that the Agency has approved over $214 million in federal disaster loans for California businesses and residents who have been affected by the recent wildfires in Butte, Los Angeles and Ventura counties in November.
