Number of Americans Living without a Partner Increases

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the share of adults living without a spouse or partner has increased to 42 percent in 2017 from 39 percent in 2007. The Pew Research Center identifies two important demographic trends that have influenced this development: the number of married adults has fallen and the number of adults living with a romantic partner has grown.

Pets Displaced by Hurricane Find Loving Homes

Rescued from residences, shelters and even the flooded streets, hundreds of pets are finding homes across the country after being rescued from Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria. Just Wednesday night, 79 dogs and 25 cats arrived in South Florida from Save a Sato, a shelter damaged during the hurricane.

The Difference in Men and Women’s Views on Gender Diversity

Men and women have different standards when it comes to gender diversity, according to the 2017 installment of Women in the Workplace from McKinsey & Co. and LeanIn.org—a comprehensive study of the state of women in corporate America. The report features pipeline data and human resource information from 222 companies employing over 12 million workers, including more than 70,000 responses to a survey exploring experiences relating to gender, opportunity, career and work-life issues.

SBA Lending Grows in 2017

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has announced that its small business lending activity displayed consistent growth in fiscal year 2017. In FY2017, the SBA approved over 68,000 loans in the 7(A) and 504 loan programs—providing $30 billion to small businesses—and increased lending to women, veterans and emerging communities alike.
