Hispanic Homeownership Rate Increases for Fifth Consecutive Year in 2019

The National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP) released The 2019 State of Hispanic Homeownership Report®, the tenth installment of their annual report, which synthesizes data and research of a broad cross-section within and outside of the housing industry. The purpose of the report is “to evaluate how the U.S. Hispanic population is faring in terms of homeownership acquisition and to review the primary opportunities and barriers to future homeownership growth,” the report states.

NAWRB would like to wish our community a happy Easter weekend!  As this year’s holiday falls during the COVID-19 pandemic, many families will be celebrating Easter and other religious holidays virtually through Zoom, FaceTime and other video conferencing services. While we are away from friends and family this year during several state-imposed stay-at-home and shelter-in-place orders, we can still make this weekend special by staying in touch virtually with loved ones.

Yesterday, April 7th, 2020, marked World Health Day, a celebration that has officially taken effect since 1950 and creates awareness of a specific health theme to highlight a priority area of concern for the World Health Organization (WHO). Coinciding with the 2020 International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, this year’s theme is focused on the contribution of nurses, midwives and other health workers who are at the front lines of the COVID-19 response and are putting their own lives at risk to keep the broader community healthy.

Equal Pay Day is March 31st: COVID-19 is Exacerbating the Gender Pay Gap

Yesterday, March 31st, 2020, marked Equal Pay Day, a day representing how far into the new year women have to work to earn the same amount of money men did the previous year. Almost four months into 2020 women finally equaled men’s 2019 earnings, due to the pervasive gender pay gap that results in women earning approximately 82 cents to every man’s dollar, which equates to a loss of $407,760 over a 40-year career. For women of color, this is a loss of nearly or over $1 million.
